Kristen Stewart’s Sexy Pirate Photoshoot Is Proof She Deserves To Be The Face Of Chanel

Maybe I’m a tiny bit biased, considering I’m a huge enough Kristen Stewart fan to have written impassioned articles about her, but her new ad campaign for Chanel is unbelievably gorgeous. The look seems to be inspired by Revolutionary War-era style, and even though most people thought KStew was an odd choice to represent the brand, she’s pretty much killing it in her frilly collars and shawls. Karl Lagerfeld might be eccentric, but he knows what he’s doing.

Kristen agrees, too. She tells Grazia that Lagerfeld “was born to fulfill the role he does,” and she makes it clear that working with him is every bit as cool as it sounds:

You can really reap the benefits of being around someone who knows so much and is so creative and driven and excited. It shocked me what a well-rounded and talented photographer he is. How truly into it he actually was. Basically and obviously, he is so much more than a fashion designer; he is a true renaissance man, one of the greatest artists of our time.

That’s made even more obvious when you look at this new shoot. I love the dark blues and reds and off-whites, I love the fringe and the details, I love the complicated cornrow braids. And the idea to turn Kristen into a sexy sultry pirate? That’s something I can seriously get behind. According to her interview with Grazia, Kristen is feeling this look just as much as I am:

Chanel is this quintessentially French brand and they are really pulling from art history and making a cowboy hat which you would never think would ever work for Chanel but they knocked it out! You know, not just chic and elegant and beautiful, which it all is, but it’s also just so cool.

My feelings exactly. Chic, elegant, beautiful, cool. I hope this means she’ll be doing more work with Karl in the future, because they’re starting to seem like a match made in heaven. (Also, can we just take a second to appreciate her extra-long, extra-full eyebrows? Look at them. Look at them.)

Are we expected to think Lagerfeld isn’t suffering from dementia with this catalogue. The clothes, the model, all look a hot mess.

Love the article love Kristen stewart and chanel tiny bit of a problem though. It’s a cowboy themed collection not pirate :) little mistake but still everything about the ad is spot I don’t think anyone else could pull off this look more then her.

Absolutely gorgeous! This girl’s face is so beautiful. Obviously, the clothes aren’t for everyone but she sure looks fierce in them.

Awesome! Chanel is fantastic and KS kicks a** in these photos.

Pirate? They were going for an edgy take on the old west. That’s why the debut was in Texas. I think she looks fantastic. She really is the perfect person to represent this line and you can tell she really enjoyed doing it. This is really an awesome collaboration. As far as the article is concerned, I just don’t get how the writer got pirate from this, especially after they got so much flack from the Native American community about the feathered headpieces that were worn in the show. They explained the theme when the collection debuted, and it wasn’t revolutionary war era pirates.Clearly somebody hasn’t been paying attention.

She looks more like she is channeling Boy George. Maybe it seems more original if you were born in the 90s.

She is absolutely beautiful in this shoot. Perfect skin, beautiful eyes and beautiful lips what more can anyone ask for? And she does NOT look like a hot mess. At least he is not trying to sell his product with her having sex with some guy, and naked or wrapped in a sheet. I admire any company that does not sell their product with sex. It always turns me off. I will never buy another Dior product..EVER.

I don’t see how someone “deserves” to be the face of Channel other that by being very attractive and looking good in clothes. I’m really not trying to be snarky, but this isn’t a merit thing. Despite all the criticism she’s faced, Stewart is clearly very attractive and she looks lovely here.

      • Adrienne

Agreed. Plus, I can’t believe I am going to say this….but Karl did a really good job with the photographs (I usually hate Karl’s photography). I’m so so about KStew (although I loved her in Adventureland) but I think she pulls this campaign off very well (and was as much better fit than Blake “Bland” Lively) and it is a much better “look” (edgy/90s) than the Balenciaga one.

Karl’s photography is typically just so, so mediocre. Like Bob Dylan’s paintings. They’re not terrible, but there’s no way they’d be recieved and praised like they are if Lagerfeld and Dylan weren’t already famous for other stuff. And yes- Stewart definitely has more of the “quirky attractive” look that people typically associate with high fashion houses than Lively.

She is so Talented, wow actress, model, and singer, what more could you ask for. I’m looking forward to her new movies, she’s just a great person, I’ve watched every movie she’s been in and I say she’s great.
