Red Carpet Rundown: Michelle Obama, Julia Louis-Dreyfus Lead The Best-Dressed At The White House Correspondents’ Dinner

WHCD-Lede

Last night was the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. The event’s attendees might refer to it as “nerd prom,” the way a drunk hipster might gush, “OMG, I’m such a nerd!” before leaving his fake glasses in the bathroom, but it still draws out a bunch of very well-dressed celebrities. This year, the best-dressed list included Lupita Nyong’o, Olivia Munn, and Linda Evangelista. But Michelle Obama won. Michelle Obama always wins.

Michelle Obama wore Marchesa, and everything about this is perfect.

Lupita Nyong’o's polka dot Oscar De La Renta is very “classy Washington lady,” while still being fun enough for a young movie star.

Of course my favorite part is looking for Julia Louis-Dreyfus so I can pretend Veep‘s Selina Meyer is real. The VP would have worn a sexier dress, though.

Anna Chlumsky‘s facial expression is perfect. She looks just like Selina Meyer’s chief of staff watching ridiculous political bullshit go down.

Linda Evangelista wore a big red fur. I don’t like the shoes, but her red lips and intense eye makeup distracted me from even noticing them.

Olivia Munn is wearing a sexy quilt, but somehow it works.

Orange is the New Black‘s Taylor Schilling is a bit frumpy in this matronly navy gown, but her hair looks nice.

Cynthia Rowley can show up looking like an extra from Swan Lake, because she is très fashion.

Veronica Mars clearly borrowed a bridesmaid dress from a clothesline to sneak into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to gather evidence.

Model Irina Shayk just demonstrated why she gets paid a lot of money to wear clothes. This is fierce.

Sophia Vergara is just rubbing it in at this point.

Only Freida Pinto could show this much sideboob and still look demure.

Barbara Walters‘ outfit is the same color as Kelly Osbourne‘s hair. That’s pretty cool, but those earrings look so heavy our lobes are wincing in sympathy.

Juliana Margulies wears the smile of a woman who knows how much her elegant, understated diamond jewelry is worth.

Diane Lane looks like she wishes the floor would swallow her up. She’s halfway there.

Jessica Simpson‘s dress fits so poorly it looks like she pulled a Scarlett O’Hara with the drapes from her hotel room, but we don’t think she’d stay in a hotel with such ugly drapes.

Whoa, check out Uzo Aduba! Suzanne from Orange is the New Black looks really good in formalwear. The way she matched her lipstick to her clutch is aces.

Lindsey Vonn wanted to remind you that she has an Olympic gold medal, and this dress was the fastest way to do that.

Rose McGowan was halfway through her Addams Family-themed burlesque routine when she remembered she had a ticket to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. This dress is awful, but it’s a good reminder that a really awful dress worn with enough aplomb can liven up any red carpet.

I honestly love every dress on here (with the exception of Rose McGowan, because wut). God, Marchesa always wins at elegance that feels subtle and striking at the same time.

The only dresses I don’t like are Taylor Schillings (seriously she already just looks so much older then she is, why would she choose such a Mattingly dress?) and Jessica Simpson’s. Everyone else looks fab (yes I weirdly like Roses dress, I don’t know why)

Michelle Obama, Anna Chlumsky (CANT BELIEVE THATS MYGIRL!) Olivia Munn and Frieda Pinto look especially stunning
