Hooray, the 2014 Costume Institute Benefit (i.e. the epic fashion glory that is the Met Gala) was just kicked off by Michelle Obama! The First Lady looked stunning at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume center, which is being renamed after one beloved/feared Anna Wintour.

The FLOTUS chose a beautiful green floral dress from Naeem Khan that hit just below her knees, making it a lovely daytime look for such a fun daytime occasion as honoring the Vogue Editor-In-Chief. (Few can say they have ever done as much for the Met Gala as Wintour, so it only makes sense that the Metropolitan Museum of Art would want to pay tribute to her like this.)

To accompany the pretty Naeem Khan design, Obama chose coordinating cream pumps and green earrings. The side swept hairstyle she went for complimented the fresh spring look, as did her simple, polished makeup.

As you may have noticed, we have been increasing excited and enthralled by Met Gala madness. From counting down the best looks in the event’s history to checking out the most controversial looks to walk its red carpet, all the way to seeing a toddler dressed up by Vogue in some of those looks. This year’s theme is Charles James: Beyond Fashion, so tonight will undoubtedly feature tons of gorgeous gowns and elegant beauty choices.

Given how great Michelle Obama’s initial look is, we can only assume Anna Wintour did an excellent job keeping out the undeserving (i.e. normals like you and me)–and we really, really can’t wait to liveblog the whole thing later tonight. Stay tuned and be sure to check back here for all our Met Gala coverage!

I liked this very much. Naeem Khan as a collaborator has been a game changer for Michelle Obama, ever since the first State Dinner for the Prime Minister of India and is wife a few years back.
