For the third day of the 67th Cannes Film Festival, actress Rosario Dawson positively killed it on the red carpet for the Captives photocall. Whereas most of the looks we have seen so far at Cannes have ranged from stunning to sparkly to simply braless, Rosario went somewhere in between with her fun half-shaved haircut and bold dress.
Rosario’s Sportmax Fall 2014 dress featured a bright print that had an abstract effect, as well as an uneven, flared peplum that is probably the only one I have ever actually almost enjoyed. Oh, and did I mention that her Bionda Castana shoes are black and white checker print?
What gives this look so much energy is that it is almost counterintuitive to have this type of haircut at a fancy red carpet event, particularly one that has such a long tradition of specific types of styles the way Cannes does. However, the perfectly-fitted dress and simple makeup do wonders for keeping the look from going over-the-top, so kudos to Rosario and her stylist for this. This is not the first time Rosario has had this haircut; last year, she rocked the half-shaved head over the summer and looked fantastic doing so. She’s actually had this cut for a few weeks now, but to my knowledge, this is the first time she’s gone on a red carpet with it this year.
To be honest, I have almost always thought this cut was pretty unattractive. But y’know, as much as I feel genuine disdain for everything about or related to Skrillex, the half-shaved head thing (or just shaved portions in general) has been increasingly good on various female stars lately. From Kelly Osbourne‘s pretty lavender undercut hairstyle to Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer pairing her shaved side with loose mermaid waves, my mind has been potentially changed. Maybe.
That said, I think this is one of those “not for everybody” haircuts. I’m sure anyway can (Cannes?) wear it, but I think it will look awesome only on people who truly embrace it–something it appears Rosario has done beautifully.
Oh, and just before I go: how cute are Rosario and her costar Mirelle Enos?
