Taylor Swift Is Handing Out Red Lipstick Tips, And Everyone Should Be Listening

If there’s one thing Taylor Swift can do, it is wear a red lip. While most fair-skinned blondes opt for nudes, light pinks, and neutral tones, Swift wears a bright swath of red as well as anyone whose name is not Dita Von Teese.

Taylor Swift’s red lipstick is definitely my favorite thing about her, but it’s an unusual choice for a woman with her coloring. But at an interview at the Keds Style Icons event in LA yesterday, she finally revealed why she wears such bright lipstick all the time.

“I guess I just think my face looks worse without it,” she told People.

Well, there’s a woman who knows her own mind.

Swift actually said she chooses her outfit for the ay based on which red lipstick she wants to wear that day, which sounds surprisingly like a style tip we’d get from an old-timey Hollywood movie star like Gloria Swanson.

“Darling, every good look must start with the perfect red lipstick,” we imagine a much older woman drawling in grainy black and white footage while wrapped in like seven fur stoles. “Start with the perfect red lip and choose your outfit based on that.”

Swift hasn’t quite turned into a cool old lady movie star yet, but she does have a red lipstick collection that would make most of them jealous.

“I don’t have an excessive amount! I just find one I like and use it,” she said. “Right now [I'm using] Dragon Girl by NARS … I’ll go through different phases with makeup and always try new things. Except I never really get too far from red lipstick, do I?”

Never getting too far from red lipstick sounds like more good style advice to me. Maybe Taylor Swift is actually going to grow up to be one of those cool old ladies who wears red lipstick all the time and dispenses invaluable fashion advice from a velvet divan. God, I hope so.

I purchased a velvet divan last year in hopes of aging into this properly. I haven’t started wearing red lipstick everyday yet. But I do have drinking martinis down pretty well, so I would say I’m most of the way to this life goal.

Between the divan and the martinis you’ve definitely got the most important parts taken care of! (I have divan envy.)
