Maleficent has finally premiered, and if you’re not already waiting in line for your tickets, that means we all have a chance to see its super fashiony stars, Elle Fanning and Angelina Jolie, promote their super fashiony movie with some dramatic and character-appropriate haute couture.
This has been a good promotional tour for 16-year-old Elle Fanning, because she is basically a Disney princess brought to life already. Just look at her in this spectacular Elie Saab haute couture gown:
She’s so elegant and poised, it’s difficult to remember she’s a teenager. If anyone wants to make another Grace Kelly biopic, they should probably just wait 10 years and then cast Elle Fanning.
Elle Fanning wore her embroidered tulle gown so perfectly that the dress should probably go retire now, comfortable in the knowledge that it had one job to do, and it did it with aplomb. The lilac color is perfect on Fanning, and she looks so luminous and ethereal I’m pretty sure sales of SPF 50 broad-spectrum sunblock spiked the moment this picture was published.
As much as I love the gown and Fanning’s hair and minimal makeup, I’m conflicted on the choker. On the one hand, it looks about as good as a choker can look and I like the mid-90s, Downton Abbey vibe it gives off. On the other hand, it breaks up that smooth line from her ear to her shoulder, and I think this might be one of those cases where going completely without jewelry would have been more effective. Still, with or without the choker she looks completely amazing, and basically like a Disney princess brought to life. Well-played, Elle Fanning and Elle Fanning’s styling team.
