Sunday night marked the 68th Annual Tony Awards, the awards show that honors the best of the best in live Broadway theater. The 2014 host was none other than Hugh Jackman, who bounced his way onto the stage and all over the show. In addition to wonderful performances and tearful awards speeches, there was (of course) a ton of fashion.
But being an awards show whose guest list primarily consists of Broadway actors and musical theater folks, there was a ton of three things: sparkles, sequins, and so, so much satin. Basically, they looked like adult versions of musical theater kids–which makes total sense, obviously, and differed considerably from last year’s solid color-denominated red carpet. Some people pulled off their wild looks, but there was a whole lot of overdoing it, too. Here’s the rundown, featuring the likes of Leighton Meester, Jennifer Hudson, Lucy Liu, Tina Fey and many, many more.
Wow, Jennifer Hudson. Oh my goodness, she positively killed it in this sparkly number. While lots of guests, nominees and presenters opted for metallics, I think Hudson outperformed them all with this Kaufmanfranco Fall 2013 gown.
Guys. WHOA. Look at Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. I mean really.
A closer look at the bust, which perfectly fits her.
I can’t tell if I love or really, really dislike Emmy Rossum‘s silver Ralph Lauren Collection Pre-Fall 2014 dress. It feels very prom-like (a running theme for the evening’s inspiration, I think), but it also fits her beautifully. Plus, her hair and makeup looked stunning.
Gosh, Leighton Meester looked lovely in Antonio Berardi Pre-Fall 2014.
Of course, it’s still wildly surreal to see her with Adam Brody like it ain’t no thang that two of our collective high school show idols are together.
Naturally, RuPaul was way more fun than almost anybody on the red carpet–and probably the closest to dressing like a Pink Lady, which is a musical outfit we’re okay with taking inspiration from.
Wow, Maggie Gyllenhaal looks spectacular in this feathered and beaded Dolce & Gabbana gown.
I love Lucy Liu’s red carpet style typically, but I can’t decide how I feel regarding this Vivienne Westwood gown. I’m all about unconventional tops, but it looks like there are carefully folded napkins shrouding her boobs.
Guys, look how cool Fran Drescher looks with Shiva Ayyadurai. Her dress is so elegant, I love it.
Here’s an actual photo of the bright coral gown.
Kate Mara‘s look feels like a high-fashion version of every villainess costume a stage parent has ever designed. Except this dress is from Dolce & Gabbana, so it’s probably slightly pricier than the one your mom and dad made.
Oh hey, Zachary Quinto!
