Journalist Esther Honig has started the Before & After project to examine different standards of beauty from across the world. She sent an untouched photograph of herself to different designers from across the globe and simply requested that they “make her beautiful.” The results have been surprising as Honig writes on her website:
“Photoshop allows us to achieve our unobtainable standards of beauty, but when we compare those standards on a global scale, achieving the ideal remains all the more illusive.”
Here are just a few of the photoshopped results from the project:
1. The Original
The unaltered image that Honig sent out.
2. Bangladesh  In addition to a hair tweak and subtle makeup, some countries like Bangladesh added clothing and jewelry.
Some designers took a more heavy-handed approach. Here Honig received an entirely new hairstyle, a bold lip and a sparkly necklace.
Some countries like the Ukraine decided to skip the bold lipstick and focused on simply retouching the image.
5. United States
Of course we all wanted to know what the good old USA version would look like. The photoshop skills aren’t the greatest, but they don’t take away from the overall results. Notice the new eye color?
