Never one to follow the crowd, Marilyn Monroe skipped the ivory ballgowns for her wedding to baseball player Joe DiMaggio and instead wore a brown wool suit with a fur collar, along with her trademark perfect curls and stunning makeup.

11. Yoko Ono

Nobody does “effortless cool” quite like Yoko, whose short dress at her 1969 Gibralter wedding to John Lennon is one of the greatest ever. Seriously, how many people on Earth can pull off a floppy sunhat and knee-high boots at her wedding?

12. Kelly Clarkson

My favorite thing about Kelly’s wedding dress is how her it is. It’s bold, pretty, feminine and cute without going too over-the-top.

13. Anne Hathaway

I was obsessed with Anne’s pale pink Valentino gown back when the photos first came out, and even more so when Vogue published clearer portraits of the beautiful bride. As a pretty big supporter of Anne Hathaway, it was really cool to see just how excited she was to be getting married–and in such an unbelievably elegant gown.

Not all wedding dresses have to be flowing and fluffy, as proven by Mick Jagger‘s then-wife Bianca. How cool is this Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking Jacket? For her wedding.

15. Christina Ricci

Mia and her trademark pixie cut could not have looked better at her 1966 wedding to Frank Sinatra than in this beautiful white boxy jacket and dress.

Well, duh. Did you really think I was going to the leave of the wedding dress that 2 million billion people tuned in to see?

When I first saw Anne Hathway’s dress I thought I would hate it, but it totally grew on me. And there’s no way I could make that headpiece work like she could.

    • Heather C

Omg! Have I really never seen Anne Hathaway’s dress? I would remember that headpiece.

    • Lily Savage

Kate Middleton was flawless in her wedding gown. Completely worth waking up at five am to see.

Some of these are lovely, but for “President’s daughter” I would substitute Jenna Bush Hager (or Tricia Nixon Cox – their dresses looked a lot alike) and for “European royalty” I can’t help thinking that none of the ’80s-born crew can touch Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

Yeah, okay, maybe I like lace dresses.
