Crowdsourcing: Help! What Kind Of Blonde Should I Make My Hair Tonight?

It seems like just last week I was crowdsourcing you folks for ideas on what the eff to do with my boring, brown hair (it was actually just last month, but I digress). Thanks to your wonderful feedback, I decided to go blonde for a while before eventually taking myself to a vivid shade of blue. While I have prepped myself for the big switch to being a blonde–primarily emotionally–I have not done one of my own integral steps: deciding what kind of blonde I want to be. And I’m going blonde at Hairroin Salon TONIGHT. In like three hours, guys.

Obviously I want to be a Mae West, but she was in black and white for the most part so I think I’ll just show you guys photos of people whose hair tones and dynamics you can actually see.

First of all, here is a recent photo of my face with my makeup the way it usually is:

Chloe Evelyn is winking at you.

And since I will also have this hair color when I am not wearing beauty products, here is a very straightforward photo from last week’s big move sans makeup, dry shampoo, sleep and sanity.

Help! What Kind Of Blonde Should I Make My Hair Tonight?Choice 1: Pale, neutral blonde.

This model and I have pretty similar levels of paleness, so hopefully this would look decent on me, too. It’s a light, delicate blonde that feels demure, which would be a nice thing to try out.

Choice 2: Ash blonde with lots of lowlights and dimension.

I love Amanda Seyfried‘s hair here; it’s got tons of dimension and variations in hue, making it very texturally appealing.

Choice 3: Warm, solid blonde.

I positively love Rita Ora‘s hair and most things she does, but would this be too flat for me? Warm colors don’t look great with my skin tone typically so this one is probably the one I’m most apprehensive about, but figured I would throw it in in case anybody else has some insight.

Choice 4: Cool platinum blonde.

I’ve wanted platinum blonde like Kimberley Wyatt‘s for ages, but it definitely is less natural than the rest of these options. I saw a woman about my age riding the train a few months ago with a messy platinum blonde bob like this and have been obsessed with the idea ever since, though I am very pale so I’m unsure if it would be too much with my skin tone.

    Pale, neutral!

      But for like a week.

    • Samantha Escobar

      And then…SHAVING!

    • Jenni

Because what is hair but something that gets in our way!!

  • Heather C

If you don’t want to go Adam Levine’s Malfoy blonde then #1. Before I saw the options, that is what I was picturing. Second choice: #4.
P.S. That kitty is so cute.

    • Samantha Escobar

I wish Adam Levine Malfoy were a character in a fanfic…

And thank you! Chloe thanks you, too.

Since you’re planning on going blue soon, anyway, try out the wildest option – for me, that would be platinum, but if you think one of the others is crazier for you, go for it – because if you don’t like it, you’re going to be changing it soon enough!

    • Samantha Escobar

      Excellent point :D

  • Elyne

I voted for the ash blonde. Love your cat btw she looks awesome.

    • Samantha Escobar

Thank you! She is a brat but I really, truly love her for that.

  • Wolfheart

Golden, with a hint of red. I.E. Anna from Frozen, not Elsa. That would flatter both your complexion and eyes, and your eyebrows would be less contrast-y.
My 2 cents- I am sure you’ll look great whatever your choice :)

    • Samantha Escobar

Ooooh that is fun! Thank you so much :D And oh goodness, I keep forgetting about my brows…I need to get a new brow pencil, eep.

To be perfectly honest, this doesn’t seem like a very appropriate post for The Gloss. This seems like something that you should be posting on your private Facebook or your personal blog. It makes me think less of The Gloss that they would allow a post such as this, because it does not provide any entertainment or information to the reader.

    • Samantha Escobar

Huh! We’ve been doing personal posts on The Gloss for ages, and recently, we received readers’ feedback that said they wish there were more personal stories, photos and experiences being shared. But to each her own!

    • Michelle

i think this is pretty cool myself. and i’m entertained!

So now you need a picture after you go blond with the caption “Are you not entertained” bahaha…

    • Samantha Escobar

      YES. Today….Today.

    • Melissa

      ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!

    • Samantha Escobar

      Hehe I love this. <3

    • Holly

If it’s not appropriate for The Gloss then it hasn’t been appropriate for The Gloss for years because they’ve been doing it for a long, long time. Also, I’m entertained and I’ve been a Glosser (I totally just made that up but think it should become Gloss canon now) for years.

    • Samantha Escobar

Thank you! It’s odd because we get complaints in both directions so frequently (we’re too serious, not serious enough, too personal, too personality-less, etc) so it’s always difficult to know where to go, haha. So thank you, Holly! :)

It’s the internet ain’t nobody happy.

    • JenH1986

I will have to politely disagree. I’ve been waiting all damn week for @samanthaescobar:disqus to post a photo of her pretty face with blonde hair. So While it’s not even 10 a.m. I’m hoping for a photo soon!

    • Samantha Escobar

TADAAAA. It is blonde! But also something else, hehe. It means a ton to me that you guys are actually interested! <3

First of all, I’m bummed because I thought this happened already and I *may* have been glossstalking waiting for an update. But since it hasn’t… I vote Ash or pale blonde. Reason being your coloring and bc if you go from brunette to platinum in can be jarring for you personally ( I speak from experience) and even if it looks great, the change alone can make you second guess yourself for weeks. Plus, you can always go lighter if you love it. It will look awesome no matter what. Have fun!!!

    • Samantha Escobar

Oh goodness, it’s my fault–I accidentally wrote “tomorrow” on Monday’s post when the fact of the matter is…my appointment is today. I got my stuff all mixed up! But I can’t tell ya how much I love that you were Glossstalking (can that be added to the dictionary plz?).

Thank you so much! And yes–I think going from medium brown to a light light shade can be crazy, so perhaps the lowlights will help even that out…

    • Megan

      Yes to lowlights ! #glossstalkingagain

  • S

Your hairdresser is the only one who can really answer this question in my opinion! Personally I love the idea of the platinum messy bob, but as for what will look good on you and be achievable with your hair, a professional will know best.

  • Alexandra Mitchell

I voted for pale neutral blonde. But ash was my second pick. Can’t wait to see your new look! I actually just had someone the other day say I should go blonde and I immediately thought of this post. But I’m scurred….

  • Jenni

UPDATE: I’ve seen the new hair. And it’s already changed my life in 9 ways. Way #6: every time I look up from my computer and see Sam, I scream IMPOSTER!!!!!

  • Rose D.
