Last night’s 2014 Teen Choice Awards was full of laughs, music, and college junior-aged heartthrobs that make you feel a little weird for finding them hot. But most of all, it was filled with outfits. In fact, there were a surprising number of outfits we loved on quite a few stars we didn’t expect to see on the best dressed list. Not one but two members of the Kardashians, as well as Taylor Swift (who went outside her comfort zone and it paid off) and Selena Gomez. Check out our best dressed picks of the 2014 Teen Choice Awards and see if you agree!
Understated but fun, Kylie Jenner looks great on this red carpet. Her simple black bob isn’t overly styled and she did a good job mixing print with solids with this Sass & Bide skirt.
Selena Gomez wore a chic black Saint Laurent suit and a sleek ponytail, then added flashes of metallic with her clutch and heels.
I’m digging Hailee Steinfeld‘s matching top and skirt combo (or is it attached and actually a dress)? It’s colorful, cute, and has tons of movement in it.
I want to explain to you why I love Nina Dobrev‘s outfit, but I can’t. I just love it. It’s so…I don’t know. There is something that it is and I cannot pinpoint it so I’ll just post this realistic translation of my feelings:
I love Taylor Swift‘s outfit. It looks fantastic on her because it’s fun, bouncy and bright, but still well within her personality. Plus, for once she isn’t wearing a long, white, flowing, look-how-goddesslike-I-am gown. This is a colorful and more casual, but still event-appropriate, option.
In a sea of crop tops and neons, Odeya Rush is positively killing it in this lovely red gown from Monique Lhullier. Atta girl. And the sheer red lip? Boom. Perfect choice for a moderately formal occasion.
Look, I’m not necessarily saying Kim Kardashian was the best dressed in this Balmain outfit, but can we give an “E” for Effort and an “I” for Improved? This is just so much better than her usual outfits, though it looks like she just started using the same stylist as Kendall.
Jamie Brewer wore a sweet skull print, but what I like most here is that she accessorized wisely: minimal jewelry, which therefore didn’t clash with the pattern’s busyness, while the shoes coordinate well without overshadowing it.
I loved Shailene Woodley‘s dress. Sure, it’s weird and clashes, but it does so in an excellent way and it fits her beautifully. The simple hair, shoes and jewelry make this look a win.
I initially was unsure about Shay Mitchell‘s white lace bustier and pencil skirt combo from Misha Collection, but the more I looked at it, as well as at her gorgeous braid and burgundy lip, the more I fell in love with it.
I’m totally digging both Laura and Vanessa Marano‘s outfits. They clash with one another, but individually, they’re so cute! Laura is bright and preppy in a LUBLU Kira Plastinina lemon top, Paper London mini skirt, and Via Spiga’s ‘Fey’ ankle strap pumps, while Vanessa is grown up and sleek. I’m not a fan of the former’s shoes, but other than that, this is an awesome set of looks for the occasion.
I have to admit–at first, I hated Cat Deeley‘s Alberta Ferreti dress. It’s bright orange and has bold purple flowers, making it at risk of being a real eyesore. But the more I stare at it, as well as her coordinating lipstick, the more I love how colorful it is. It’s an awesome pop of color for an event that it supposed to be a ton of fun to dress up at.
