22 Cute Ways To Wear A Midi Skirt

Black pink pleated midi

Ever since Eloquii‘s epic #MidiMoment campaign, I have been thinking nonstop about how awesome midi skirts are. They’re the best of both worlds: you get enough coverage that your legs don’t free (provided it’s not 15 degrees outside) but you also get to show off your calves, wear a pretty pair of shoes, and swirl and swish around like you’re in an adorable Tumblr GIF.

Personally, though, I have typically either worn short skirts, ultra-long ones, or pants, so I am not as familiar as I’d like to be with wearing midi-length garments (the other being culottes, which our lovely writer Kelsey was kind enough to explain here). So, today I’m doing a bit of exploration into the world of Pinterest style ideas to show you (and myself) all the wonderful ways to style a midi skirt for spring!

1. Pair plaid with leather.

If you want to look like a 1950s movie star who’s off to lunch with her big Hollywood producers, take a page from Girl With Curves blogger Tanesha Awasthi‘s book. This smooth white midi skirt and mustard-colored top, combined with effortlessly polished hair and makeup, are giving her the perfect Grace Kelly vibe.

4. Go neon.

If you’re not quite ready for pastel colors and flower print dresses, you can get a gorgeous dark look by matching a crop top to a cool midi skirt in a matching dark shade. Sydne Summer of Sydne Style picked two beautiful pieces to go together, then kept her accessories along the same lines, adding just a pop of color with the soles of her shoes and her red lipstick.

8. Dress up a simple tee.

For days when you really don’t want to part with your favorite t-shirt, you can always dress it up with a pleated pastel midi skirt, a statement necklace, heels, and the perfect pedicure.

9. Wear a crisp white button down with a pastel midi.

To be honest, this is probably my favorite look of the bunch. I’m all about prints and crop tops and pleats, but guys, this look is perfect. All you need is a mustard bag and a pair of cute heels (or flats) and you’re set for spring, summer, and fall.

10. Find the coolest print ever and wear the heck out of it.

Surely, I am not the only person who finds this to be the loveliest print on the planet, am I? (The best part: it’s on sale right now!) Keep this look focused on the skirt by wearing just a basic white top and coordinated shoes.

11. Don’t be afraid to get funky.

The midi skirt has a reputation for being a sweet, summery piece, but it’s easy to get edgy by adding cool accessories like leather straps, black boots, or purple or black lipstick.
