How to Transform Your Favorite Emmy Dresses Into (Affordable) Everyday Looks

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsI’m all for asking female celebrities more than just “who are you wearing?” And you know what, I’m also all for admiring great fashion. So during last night’s Emmys I was more than happy to get inspired by these ladies’ amazing accomplishments and secondarily, by some gorgeous dresses. I’m also not ready to let this year’s Emmy dresses die, so I spent the night dreaming of ways to transform this year’s best gowns into fun everyday looks.

Jaimie Alexander

TNT LA - 67th Emmy Awards - Red CarpetJaimie Alexander’s look was one of my absolute favorites last night, so special that it can’t possibly be duplicated. Plus, sequins are tough IRL you guys. But, I’m thinking shrink the sequins to mini skirt size, keep the slicked back hair and smoky eye, and keep the badass theme with some major heels boots. (Outfit details)jaimie

Tatiana Maslany67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsThis one is simple: do exactly what she did, just for a lot less money and perhaps a slightly better fitting pant. But on the whole, Tatiana absolutely nailed it. If you must make this look more “appropriate,” throw a little black tank top under there. (Outfit details)

Kerry Washington

TNT LA - 67th Emmy Awards - Red CarpetI know I know, you can’t possibly emulate this Marc Jacobs masterpiece either, but let’s give it a try shall we? Try a few of these details (only one or two at a time!) to up any outfit to glamorous gladiator status. (Details here)

Taylor Schilling

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsSure this Stella McCartney resort gown wasn’t the most obvious statement of the night, but the details—particularly the gathered asymmetrical neckline, low back, and flared hem—made it exceptional. Word to the wise: if you’re going to go for strappy yellow number like Taylor’s, skip the yellow shoes. For a non-red carpet look, go with royal blue, purple, marsala, dark grey, or other vibrant jewel tones for accessories. (Details here)

Sarah Hyland

TNT LA - 67th Emmy Awards - Red CarpetSarah Hyland slayed not one but three of the season’s biggest trends in one fell swoop: Marsala, off-the-shoulder, and matchy matchy jewels. There is so much of this color in stores right now, don’t be afraid to go all out with it like Sarah did. (Details here)
