There’s no two ways about it: Smith’s Rosebud Salve ($6) is by far and away the best product out there in the beauty market. Some (read: me) might say it’s the only thing you actually need to have in your arsenal. Honestly, ever since I picked it up on a whim at a CVS during a lunch break four years ago, it’s always been with me, and I don’t know how I ever lived without it.

I know what you’re thinking: Sara, this product has been around for ages, and honestly, I don’t want to get all Phoebe Buffay on you, but:

And you know what? Fine. I’ll concede to the fact that there have been others before me who have sung the praises of this little tin of wonder, but it’s worth repeating. It’s just that good.

Because Rosebud Salve is more than just the ideal lip balm. It can be used in almost every facet of your beauty routine, and in some unexpected ways, too. And for $6, you really can’t find a better, more universally useful product than this one. As Shakespeare once did when describing how he loved another, let me count the ways:

1. Lips

This is the obvious method. It’s a super moisturizing lip balm that manages to heal your dry, cracked lips without leaving you feeling as though you’ve just slicked oil across them, as so many other lips balms do. It also soaks into your lips, helping you to avoid that awful, white lip balm residue.

2. Hands

A common complaint that people have with regard to lip balms in tins is that you often need a tissue to remove the excess product from your fingers once you’re done with it. Rosebud Salve is different. Since it’s a three-ingredient salve, it works a lot like Vaseline in that it can be used in lieu of hand cream.

3. Nails

Here’s a little bonus: if you don’t need to moisturize your hands, you can use it in lieu of cuticle oil. Gotta keep those nails safe in the winter, y’all.

4. Eyebrows

This is the perfect eyebrow tamer if you don’t want to go out and buy an eyebrow-specific product. Just scrape some out of the tin and onto a clean mascara spoolie or eyebrow brush, and comb the hairs into place! I’d use a lighter hand for this method, simply because Rosebud Salve has a thicker formulation than most eyebrow products, but it’s just as effective.

5. Makeup Remover

You know how your mom and grandma used to tell you take off your makeup with Vaseline when you were younger because they didn’t want you messing with their nice, expensive makeup remover? Rosebud Salve works just as well.

6. Hair

It’s a great alternative to hairspray in terms of taming flyaways (the whole “eyebrow tamer” concept applies here, so it makes sense), and it’s a great temporary fix for split ends.

You can find Smith’s Rosebud Salve at Sephora, or your local drugstore!
