Blogger Responds To Abercrombie CEO’s Body Shaming With ‘Fat Abercrombie Ads’

Blogger Responds To Abercrombie CEO's Body Shaming With 'Fat Abercrombie Ads'

A little while ago, Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Clayface Mike Jeffries made some really awful comments about why his fratty Americana mall clothes don’t come in larger sizes. A recent article (focusing on the brand’s desire for thin, popular customers) brought the comments back around and a new outcry surged on the internet, especially from the fat acceptance community. One blogger, Jes at The Militant Baker, decided to write an open letter to Jeffries.

…Even better, she did a photoshoot to accompany that letter, imagining ‘fat Abercrombie ads’ that reflect positive body image. More »

Red Carpet Rundown: A Fashion Disaster Dystopia At The 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Anyone familiar with The Gloss‘ fashion coverage knows our opinion of music awards show red carpets: they are uniformly the worst.

…The thing about last night’s 2013 Billboard Music Awards? They were a different dimension of the worst. Every look was a jumble of ill-conceived ideas and bad planning.

Get ready for a few glorious pages of horrible to sublimely ridiculous red carpet moments, all in one place. Happy Monday! More »

Be Shallow, Awful And Adorbs With Our Bling Ring Shopping Guide

Hey, betches! Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring premieres at Cannes today! The film, which stars Emma Watson as the Worst, is based on a true story about a group of shallow people who robbed rich and famous shallow people. Zeitgeisty!

Anyway, guess what that means? Horrible early/mid ’00s fashion is back! Did you miss whiskered jeans? Louis Vuitton Murakami bags? Purse dogs? Ever-present Frappuccinos? Unapologetic venality? Paris Hilton being marginally relevant?

Hopefully you didn’t. But let’s take a stroll down the worst kind of memory lane with our carefully considered Bling Ring-inspired shopping guide. More »

Wed Bed Dead: On The F*ckability Of French Fries With Special Guest Julie Klausner!

Wed Bed Dead: On The F*ckability Of French Fries With Special Guest Julie Klausner!

This week, Jen sits things out while we play a carb-centric game of WBD with a very special guest: the amazing Ms. Julie Klausner.

Julie was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule–she’s got a brand new book out called Art Girls Are Easy–to come by and discuss the pros and cons of fucking/marrying/and killing some classic carbohydrates: a baguette, a bowl of pasta and a basket of French fries. We managed to avoid any and all jokes about the baguette’s phallic qualities, too! More »

Shopping Guide: Our Favorite Spring Lipsticks, Glosses And Stains

Shopping Guide: Our Favorite Spring Lipsticks, Glosses And Stains

It’s Springtime! That means big changes to makeup routines: gone is the matte skin, the moody ’90s lip colors, the heavy mascara, the cat’s eyes. Instead, skin gets dewier, cheeks get highlighted, liner is going from black to electric blue and moss green and lips are getting real, real bold.

This is the second of a few Spring beauty features we’ve got planned for May–the first is here. Right now we’re focusing on that tried and true warm weather character: the statement-y Spring lip.

Spring 2013 runways from Jason Wu to Prada (that’s Kati Nescher on the Prada runway up there) showed a variety of bold lips in shades from saturated pinks to electric corals and bright reds. Don’t be afraid, though! While bold lipsticks can be intimidating, a minimal, fresh face and a bright lip is easy to wear and really flattering.

We have been testing LOTS of lipsticks and stains these past few weeks and ahead you’ll find some of our favorites from NARS, Tarte, MAC, Hourglass, Make Up For Ever, Tom Ford and more… More »
