If you’re not into football (or Katy Perry) there is another good reason to watch the Super Bowl XLIX this weekend. Feminine hygiene brand Always are going to be airing a video for their positive #LikeAGirl campaign during the big game on Sunday to approximately 100 million people.
The #LikeAGirl campaign starting in June 2014, to destroy any negative connotations about the phrase. The statement should be used in a positive way, and not meant as an insult. Always explained that the empowering campaign is meant to help boost girls’ confidence–which can drop significantly during puberty–and show that they are amazing:
“We’re kicking off an epic battle to make sure that girls everywhere keep their confidence throughout puberty and beyond, and making a start by showing them that doing it #LikeAGirl is an awesome thing.”
The original video asked men, women, boys and girls to show what is like to do something “like a girl” from running to throwing to fighting. The adults of both sexes reacted meekly, along with the boys. When they asked girls the same questions, they reacted by running and fast as they could, and showed how strong and powerful they are.
A version of the video is going to air during Super Bowl XLIX and show an audience of millions that being “like a girl” is definitely not an insult, but it means “downright amazing things.” Always told the Huffington Post that this marks the first time a feminine care brand has advertised during the Super Bowl, and what a powerful and perfect message it is to share.
