Models keep getting younger and the fashion industry’s governing bodies remain completely toothless. Last season, CFDA president Diane von Furtsenberg got egg on her face by being an outspoken opponent of the young models and then accidentally (?) casting 15-year-old Hailey Clauson in her show (to DVF’s credit she said she was embarrassed about it). This season, the CFDA added to its “strong recommendations” that designers should actually card girls. Guess what?
Swiss model Valerija Sestic, discovered in April and snapped up by Women Management, is currently trying her hand at Milan (walking for Moschino and D&G). Here’s her showcard! She also had a great first season in New York, walking for Rodarte, Carolina Herrera, Prabal Gurung, Oscar de la Renta, Theysken’s Theory, Rag & Bone, Phillip Lim, Herve Leger, DKNY, Doo.Ri, Tory Burch… and all at the tender age of 15.
The president of Women Management, Dejan Markovic, admits: “It is true. She is 15. This is never going to happen again from our company. I take full responsibility.”
We’re sure it’ll happen again. In the meantime, we strongly recommend that the CFDA start being effective.
