When you think of Birkenstock, you probably think of shoes, right? But skincare? Not so much. That could soon change because Birkenstock is launching its own skincare range, Birkenstock Natural Care. And the line will feature a familiar main ingredient: cork.
That’s right, the same material that has helped make the shoes so popular is going to be in the skincare range. And no, none of this is an early April Fool’s joke. The Birkenstock Natural Care brand has a website and everything so we can look at the range.
The debut collection features a whopping 28 products including ones for your hair, face and body. The range is divided into five categories: Naturally Fresh, Natural Footcare, Naturally Ageless, Naturally Pure and Natural Man. Prices range from $17 to $74. What separates them from a lot of other skincare lines is that they come with earth-friendly, exchangeable cartridges that you can fill up as opposed to buying a product with a new bottle each time.
As for the inclusion of cork in the products, you don’t have to worry about getting chunks of sandal in your moisturizer. The products contain cork oak extract, aka suberin. Birkenstock explains on its website,
“As the most important component of the cell walls, suberin is what gives cork its special elasticity, and it is also what makes our BIRKENSTOCK cork-latex footbed so unique. The suberin in our high-quality natural cosmetics has a proven lifting effect. Alongside cork oak extract, the active substances system based on these research results comprises other highly effective ingredients such as arctic moss, argan oil, baobab, moringa, elderberry and botanical hyaluronic acid.”
Birkenstock didn’t give a date when the collection will launch, but before you know it, you might be able to buy skincare when picking up a new pair of sandals.
