Any makeup lover would probably agree that makeup is an art form. It takes a certain amount of skill to flawlessly contour, apply foundation seamlessly and get a crisp eyeliner flick on both eyes. The latest makeup trend taking Instagram by storm plays into the artist/makeup artist vibe. It’s called the blank canvas makeup trend and has makeup artists getting creative with paintbrushes.

When we say paintbrushes, we literally mean the type of brushes used for painting things besides your face. POPSUGAR reports that the look was created by Instagrammer @makeupbyjaack and it involves creating a swoosh of color across the face with makeup and leaving the rest of the face “blank,”  hence the name. The paintbrush comes into play because it’s meant to look like the artist swept the paintbrush across the face where the color is. To enhance the effect of painted canvas, a lot of the makeup looks use bold colors for the decorated part of their faces and mute the rest of their face with a pale foundation or white face paint to really play up the blank canvas/artwork effect.
