Short celebrity haircuts

When I was young, I brought in a photo of Mandy Moore in How To Deal as my reference for the hairstylist. It did not end well, mainly because no human being’s head is meant to look that giant (pro-tip: “volume at the crown” is not what you want when you have a big face, as I do). These days, there are tons of celebrities with (actual well-done) short hair, so let’s take a look at them, shall we?

Kate Gosselin

Oh, no. Don’t do this to yourself, not ever. Thank goodness Gosselin has moved on since this look (she has, right? I feel like I don’t care, though, because she’s a crappy parent), but that doesn’t stop innocent humans from being tricked into thinking this looks cool every single day. Cue Sarah McLachlan ballad and 1-800 number.

Kris Jenner

Aside from being an overall obnoxious person in every way, Kris has always had overly fluffy bad hair. Not a style I would recommend on anybody.

Sandra Bullock

While this was really only on the cover of Vogue, I just want to note something: those rattail thingies should not come back. Ever. This weird little mullet curl is awful.

Miley Cyrus

On behalf of everyone who cares about you, don’t get this haircut. It will not look cool or daring or fun. It will look like the designated “badass” member of every 90s boy band, or you will look like Miley Cyrus. Either way, it’s probably for the best to steer clear.

Anne Hathaway

While I think Anne’s hair fits her pretty well, I’m not a big fan of this cut most of the time — it’s a little too poofy in the back for my taste.

Jennifer Lawrence

I know, I know: Everyone hates her new hair, but I really like it. In this picture, it reminds me of Hathway’s short hair a bit but flatter-sitting and better styled.

Pamela Anderson

Uh, awesome. Totally awesome. She looks amazing. It’s perfectly fitting to her bone structure and her trademark platinum color is more striking than ever.

Emma Watson

Aside from doing just about everything right when it comes to style, Emma Watson has consistently had amazing hairstyles as an adult (decisions you make as a kid don’t really count as bad because…well, you’re a kid). Her pixie frames her face well and was always styled beautifully.

Shannyn Sossamon

This has been one of my favorite haircuts ever. This may be partially due to the fact that I think Shannyn Sossamon is the coolest and I have no idea why she’s not in more movies these days (or is she? I’m bad at keeping track, to be fair), but in general, I’ve always found this to be one of the epitomes of a messy, sexy, easygoing hairstyle.

Winona Ryder

When it comes to a short, beautiful and carefree hairstyle, I think Ryder’s in Girl, Interrupted is perfect.

Mia Farrow

Rosemary’s Baby.

Ah, the original perfect pixie. How beautiful was this? A true short cut, Farrow looked stunning in Rosemary’s Baby (not exactly a film about style, but her incredible appearance still managed to shine somehow, even amid all that demon stuff).
