Dark Shadows - UK Premiere - Outside Arrivals

Every time Chloe Moretz comes out with a new movie or gets featured on a new magazine cover, I head back over to her Wikipedia page and do some detective work. Is she a time-traveling, ageless alien? Is she like the woman in that horror movie who was in her 30s but masquerading as a child? While I’m passionate that the media has a responsibility to treat teen celebrities like children, I’m also constantly surprised by how mature Chloe looks for a 17-year-old. If you don’t believe me, here’s photographic evidence that she always looks 10 years older.

1. If I Stay New York premiere, August 2014.

"If I Stay" New York Premiere

Maybe it’s just the professional hair and makeup team to blame, but this looks like a photo of someone with a mortgage. She looks more put-together here than I ever have.

2. Cannes Film Festival, May 2014.

"Clouds Of Sils Maria" Premiere - The 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival

This dress would be prommy on just about anyone else, but Chloe makes it look like ~legit fashun~ rather than dress-up.

3. Met Gala, May 2014.

"Charles James: Beyond Fashion" Costume Institute Gala - Arrivals

The dress itself is pretty young– not that I couldn’t see a Keira Knightley or even a Blake Lively making it work– but her makeup makes her look like a seasoned model. Even with her thick brows, she comes off as more of a youthful adult than a mature youth.

4. Carrie premiere, October 2013.

Premiere Of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures & Screen Gems' "Carrie" - Arrivals

There’s something really unfair about casting a timeless beauty in the role of “frumpy innocent teen who gets her first period and kills civilians.” She shouldn’t be able to play that part convincingly and look stunning at a red carpet event. Not cool.

5. Hollywood Walk of Fame event, October 2013.

Julianne Moore Honored On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

You could put this exact outfit on an American Girl doll and it would look tweenish and cutesy, but add Chloe’s face and personality to the mix, and it starts looking mature and classy.

6. Kick-Ass 2 event, August 2013.

Kick-Ass 2 - Photocall

Until the end of time, I’m always going to get excited when young women wear suits to formal events, and this one is even better than most. She looks like Diane Keaton. Like a 68-year-old Diane Keaton.

7. Billboard Awards, May 2013.

2013 Billboard Music Awards - Arrivals

First of all, I’m obsessed with this dress. Second of all, it really concerns me to know that I wouldn’t look half this good if I tried to borrow it. That’s not how sixteen is supposed to work.

8. Vanity Fair event, February 2013.

Vanity Fair Campaign Hollywood 2013 - D.J. Night With L'Oreal Paris

Where was her awkward phase? Sometimes I feel like I’m still in the middle of mine. The way she wears these shoes (and that awesome smokey eye!) is just further proof that she transitioned smoothly from adorable kid to pretty adult.

9. Chanel event, October 2012.

Chanel: The Little Black Jacket - Private View

This one makes me feel a little better, because you could put a cat in Chanel and it would look powerful enough to run for political office. Still, Chloe looks about 35 in this jacket.

10. Dark Shadows premiere, May 2012.

Fifteen years old. When you were fifteen, you were, like, a high school sophomore. You wore Cucumber Melon body spray and begged your friend’s brother to buy you a Mike’s Hard Lemonade. You didn’t look like this.
