Today I woke up from an “interesting evening” and jumped in the shower, as one does when one does not wish to wear an “interesting” scent. However, I quickly realized that it was rather brisk outside, as I leave around 8 each morning, and that washing my hair would suck because (A) I had no time to dry my hair and (B) I didn’t want to. So I didn’t. Of course, I still needed to go to work and I wanted to look like a human being who cares at least a little bit about her appearance. I wound up wearing a hat, even after applying dry shampoo.
However! I promised myself that I would do a bit of research and actively seek out hairstyles to conceal, camouflage, and disguise dirty hair. Washing your hair every day isn’t good for it, after all, so it makes sense to go a few day sans a full wash-and-dry cycle. Still, we’ve all had those days when the top of your head is practically reflective and it feels like everybody is judging you.
Now, while Pinterest may have overly complicated braid tutorials none of us can possibly follow, it does have quite a bit of useful information regarding our collective lack of motivation toward washing our hair. Here are 16 of the most helpful tutorials I’ve found for this issue.
If I saw this style in the street, I’d think the wearer was so clever. So, I’ll be wearing it myself and considering myself clever from now on, deal?
2. Braided Bun
This looks like it takes so much weaving when you see the end result, but the steps are so simple. Plus, having a little hair accessory makes this even more polished and cute for spring.
3. Twisted Updo
A pretty updo is the perfect distraction; everyone will be so impressed with how pretty and full your hair looks, they’ll totally ignore it if you skipped the shampoo.
No joke, when Julia came in for her interview to be our intern (like almost a year ago, seriously), she was wearing this type of braided style and I loved it. I insisted that she teach me because I was wholly impressed.
It’s so high and pretty and takes way less effort than I would’ve guessed!
This epitomizes the art of “day to night” style.
Not only will you be channeling Wanda a la Cry-Baby, but everybody will be so distracted by how gorgeous your hair is, they won’t even notice you forgot to wash it…three days in a row.
When your hair is gorgeously tousled like this, it breaks up the light and makes your hair look less greasy (but still shiny and healthy).
If you love ponytails but don’t want to have a boring one you would wear to the gym, try this out!
10. Big Beach Waves
Got big, thick hair? Try this style for sure–it looks wildly luxurious.
Another retro-inspired hairstyle that will not only distract from your shiny locks, but will also make everybody who sees you think you’re a professional pinup girl.
If you’ve got shorter hair, that’s not a problem, either! Check out this gorgeous slicked back hair look (which IMO doesn’t look great on longer hair, but looks Trinity a la The Matrix cool on shorter styles).
If you possess particularly oil-producing bangs that get obviously greasy very quickly, this is the perfect style for you.
How gorgeous and romantic is this?
Polished and perfect for work or play!
Going the carefree but still stylish route? This would work so perfectly for a day at the beach with your friends–particularly on a day when you don’t want everyone to know how gnarly your hair has been lately.
