Did you do a spring clean of your makeup bag? If you didn’t, now is the time to do one. And while you’re at it, you can also start going through your bathroom cupboard.

Our bathrooms might be small spaces, but it is amazing all of the stuff that they can become filled with. Sadly, all of those lotions and potions that we worked so hard to accumulate don’t last forever. Same goes for any tools. We’re actually lucky if the products last for a year or two.

These are the products in your bathroom cupboard that you should probably toss:

1. Last Year’s Sunscreen

Last year’s sunscreen is almost definitely expired. And even if the date is still good on the bottle, it’s worth getting a new one. A lot of experts say to get a new SPF at least every season because once a sun lotion is open, it begins to lose its effectiveness.

2. Any Old Products With Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an amazing ingredient but the downside is that it loses its potency very quickly. There have been many advances in preserving it, but the bottom line is that if you have a vitamin C-rich product that’s a year old, it’s probably gone off.

3. Cuticle Removers

Whether your cuticle removers are old or new, they are a product that you might want to consider putting in the trash. The reason? A lot of manicurists are against removing cuticles. And if you do decide to remove your cuticles at home, it’s likely that you will do it wrong. If you want to look after your cuticles, you can gently push them back with an orange stick or let your manicurist handle everything.

4. Old Makeup Sponges

Makeup sponges don’t last forever. And that includes all of our reusable blenders. If you have any sponges that are starting to show some wear and tear, toss them. You will never get a good makeup application with an old, fraying sponge as you would a new one.

5. Open Hair Dye

Is there some leftover hair dye kicking around in the back of your cupboard? You might have kept it to redo your roots and forgot about it. Everyone does. It’s actually best if you toss that dye right away like the instructions on the back of the box say to.

6. Loofah

Admit it: Your loofah is probably passed its prime. It’s probably stretched out of shape and some of the netting has probably come off. Get a new one and you will notice the difference in the way it effectively exfoliates your body right away.

7. Old Emery Boards Are Orange Sticks

Have you been using the same emery board or orange stick since, well, forever? It’s time to get some new ones. Chances are the tools have probably started to show their age and don’t work as well as they once used to. Stock up on a big set of orange sticks and emery boards and you’ll get a great price and a kit that will last a long time.
