fred rogers

I felt like we needed to feature someone nice today. Can you recognize him?

It’s Fred Rogers. Or, as you might know him, Mr. Rogers. I know I already brought this up once today, regarding the heroic teacher who saved two children at Sandy Hook, but I wanted to, again, recite my favorite Fred Roger’s quote. This is a day where it probably needs to be recited a few times.

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.

Let’s try really hard to be good to one another, at least today. And call your loved ones to remind them that you love them. We should probably all do that more often, because we are very lucky that, much of the time, they are only a phone call away.

And if you do have children, Mr. Rogers also has some very good advice on how to talk to kids about tragedies.
