This past weekend, I decided to do something a little different with my nails. As I have mentioned a few times, I’ve been experimenting more and more lately with nail art. Instead of going ultra-bright as per summer usual, I decided to get rather shimmery instead. I wound up painting my nails with a stunning nude shade, as inspired by all those lovely nude nail art ideas last week. (P.S. Note to self: Do not search the phrase “nude nail art” with Safe Search off at work. I then picked up a little black polish and went to town.
I was originally sort of going for a cool, haphazard type of artsy look, but when I showed it to a fellow I am friends with, he noted that I had actually just drawn a bunch of hashtags on my nails. As a big fan of social media (follow me or whatever, ahem), I decided to just go with it.
So! The slanty hashtag manicure is now a thing, and it is a thing I very much enjoy. Here is how you can enjoy it, too.
If you hate social media, by the way, here are some very corny alternate titles:
- Polish & Pound Signs
- The Tiniest Tic-Tac-Toe
- Kris Kross: The Nails, Not The Musical Duo
Step 1: Apply a shimmery pinkish-nude polish. I picked Dolce & Gabbana The Nail Lacquer in Daphne, which is a beautiful shade of sandy nude pink with a lovely gold sheen to it. It actually makes my hands look tanner, which is no easy feat, and it is an excellent color for the summer.
Step 2: Using a thin brush, draw a short, skinny diagonal line in the lower corner of your nail. For this task, I picked NYC New York Color Nail Art Creation in Black, as it has the perfect size brush to do nail art (and only costs $1.99 at the drugstore). Draw another line of similar length and width parallel to the first.
