I know I’m not the only one who’s spent a majority of their life associating blush with old people. Ever since I saw my grandma apply a bright pink or coral to just the apples of her cheeks, I can’t see someone wearing bright blush and not flash back.

That said, I was always scared of decking my cheeks out in bright blush, or any blush at all, for that matter. I’d bronze and highlight, but took a raincheck on the whole blush thing.

It wasn’t until recently, when I snapped a selfie of my ghostly face, that I realized that, after applying my full coverage foundation, I had lost all the natural color in my face and looked, well, dead.

Since, like most people, I prefer to look, you know, alive and whatnot, I decided that I needed to just take blush for a test drive and see if I could make it work without looking like a 97-year old woman who spends her days playing bingo.

I headed into Sephora that day and swatched every blush I could find, looking for a shade that would give me life but still look nice and natural. It was at that moment when I first swiped on the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in “Exposed” ($28) that I began my love affair with the cheek enhancer.

After buying that blush and wearing it legit every single day, I decided I didn’t hate blush so much and that it was time to do a little more experimenting. Now, blush is probably one of my favorite things to apply in the morning. Many times, I even like to make it the main attraction of my makeup look.
