For some, showering can be a real bitch. For one, you have to remove yourself from the couch and head to the bathroom. It’s exhausting just to think about, right? Next, you have to take off all your clothes and turn on the water. Depending on how long it may take your shower to heat up, you may need to turn the water on first, then take off your clothes. It can be a complicated task to say the least.

Then once you’re in there, there’s all this soaping up, hair washing and sometimes shaving to be done. Of course the whole time you’re standing, which is also something that can be very trying on the body, especially if you’re more comfortable doing most things in life while laying down. However, if you can afford it and have the space, you can kiss all that effort of showering goodbye thanks to the Horizontal Shower.

A German luxury brand, Dornbracht, known for its “state-of-the-art” designs in bathroom and kitchen hardware has just solved the problem for those who just want to lay down during a shower. The Horizontal Shower (yes, that’s the name) is a slab of what looks like some sort of marble material, and allows for the person in it to lie down while “streams of water wash over their body.”

Says Andreas Dornbracht, CEO of the company, the effect “is total relaxation of the kind that is only possible to someone reclining. Tension in the head and muscles melt away, everyday stress is rinsed away with the water, body and mind are noticeably revitalized.” Sounds more like a massage than a shower.

While one may consider this a brilliant move in the way of maximizing and enhancing your cleaning routine, as with everything, there are critics. The shower has been compared to something that is allowing for a “beached seal” effect wrote one critic, which of course, just contributes to the already pre-conceived notion that human beings are lazy in general. There’s also the fact that it’s such an over-indulgent item to have that it’s obnoxious that it even exists in the first place.

Personally, I’d love a Horizontal Shower. Yes, I’m admitting that I’m somewhat lazy, but I’m mostly suggesting it would be a fun pick-up line. How often do you get propositioned to come over and check out someone’s Horizontal Shower? Not too often, I’m assuming. So it might be a purchase worth considering.
