While perusing through the endless channels in my cable subscription last night, I happened to spot Jason Derulo, one of the only celebrities I find myself hopelessly attracted to. Pausing to take in his glory, I then saw Jennifer Lopez, who’s one of my all-time favorite pop singers/actresses/dancers/overall badasses, which is when I realized I was watching American Idol for the first time ever (really). While I had no idea what was going on, I couldn’t help but notice Jennifer’s hair. Namely, her topknot, which was pulled so tight and high on her head, it actually looked painful.
Her David Koma dress fits perfectly and these metallic silver heels are ultra-sexy, but the topknot just distracts me from the overall look.
Let’s take a closer look:
Obviously, she looks gorgeous and wondrous and polished, as per usual, but her topknot is pulled in such a way that it looks like her face is being yanked along with it. For perspective, here’s a comparable topknot that appears more reasonable.
Now, I love a quick and easy hairstyle as much as the next lazy girl, but I think topknots, more than any other, have a tendency to get out of control. Accessorizing your topknot looks fantastic; turning yourself into Cindy Lou Who is a little less appealing. The height aspect would not be quite so odd to me, though, if it didn’t appear to be physically painful in tightness.
