So-called investigative journalist Ian Halperin (who’s written unauthorized biographies of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Celine Dion, Brangelina and more) has spent the last twelve months working on his Lady Gaga tell-all. As part of his promotional tour, Halperin gave an interview to Star in which he makes a lot of explosive claims (that the superstar wears outlandish costumes and makeup to conceal her lupus, for one) but devotes a lot of time to talk of Gaga’s alleged eating disorder:

“Those who have worked with her on tour reported to me that Gaga barely ate for weeks at a time to fit into her costume. She is sick and obsessed with her weight. One friend told me, Gaga will stare at herself in the mirror for hours on end, analyzing and critiquing her body. It’s an unhealthy obsession.”

A lot has been made of Lady Gaga’s weight loss, but it doesn’t seem like much more than a woman’s typical fluctuations coupled with heightened awareness of one’s body due to fame (and entities like Star magazine). Whether or not you think her figure should be a matter of discourse, it’s important to note that Halperin has made a name for himself with books like Love & Death: The Murder of Kurt Cobain, Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson and Shut Up and Smile: Supermodels, the Dark Side.
