Of all the major Spring beauty launches, the most coveted among all Internet-goers and the Instagram-obsessed is Kylie Jenner‘s newest Lip Kit shade, Kourt K. The deep plum shade goes on sale today at 6 p.m EST/ 3 p.m PST, so you know I’m going to be refreshing that sales page every 10 minutes for the rest of the day. Given my previous lack of luck with regard to getting my hands on my own tube, though, I’m not too hopeful.
BUT, just because my chances of getting Kourt K are slim, that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the beauty of the shade, right? It’s a sharp departure from the nudes, pinks, and reds Kylie has already released, and I daresay it might quickly make its way into my handful of go-to everyday shades. When you first look at the tube, it seems like a bright, Rihanna-worthy violet:
In reality, though, it’s a much deeper, more elegant hue, reminiscent of something we’d expect to see on someone like Lorde:
I was in love the second I saw it, and while that might not be saying too much given my alarmingly extensive lipstick collection indicative of a possibly problematic addiction, I know that I must have, if not Kylie’s product, then something very similar.
And with that, I present my top dupes for Kylie’s Kourt K, all of which you can get your hands on now for a fraction of the OG Lip Kit price:
Nyx makes a good purple lipstick, and while this might not be as bright as some of their more vibrant, unique options, Vintage is a strong plum. It’s slightly more black than Kourt K, but hey, what can you do?
You may remember that I recently stumbled upon Buxom’s new line of liquid lipsticks and was very pleasantly surprised by the formula. It’s long-lasting, velvet-y, and highly pigmented. Plus, the long applicator allows for effortless, even color.
Okay, so full disclosure, I haven’t tried this Maybelline formula because I’m trying this new thing called “having self control at the drugstore and not buying every liquid lipstick in sight,” but if I don’t get Kourt K tonight, I might give in. Besides, at $7, you can’t really get much better, and Gigi Hadid is the product’s spokesmodel, so…
There’s a reason Stila is on just about every single matte liquid lipstick shopping guide out there. It’s just one of the very best.
Same with Anastasia Beverly Hills. This one is slightly more magenta than Kourt K, but you know you’re getting a high quality color when you pick up ABH.
BH is highly underrated, IMHO, and the only reason I knew about it before entering the professional beauty sphere is because it’s a favorite among beauty vloggers. Again, you can’t hate an under-$10 price tag.
