If you’re going to be posting pouty selfies à la Kylie Jenner on Instagram, you might as well help support a great cause by smudging your lipstick before you snap the photo. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust have launched the #SmearForSmear campaign which raises awareness for cervical cancer and promotes the importance of getting a Pap test.
It’s an important cause considering cervical cancer is the most common cancer for women under the age of 35, according to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. It is also one of the few cancers that can be prevented, yet many women do not go to have a Pap Smear.
The #SmearForSmear campaign uses social media to raise awareness about going to get a cervical screening. It’s simple to get involved. Just put on some lipstick, smear it, and take a photo of yourself. Post it with the hashtag #SmearForSmear and link to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust’s Twitter. Don’t forget to nominate your friends, to help spread the message.
Lots of people have already posted their photos to support the cause. Celebrities are also getting involved. Georgia May Jagger posted the above selfie and nominated model friends Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse. Rita Ora has also posted her smeared lipstick selfie and nominated more celebs including Jourdan Dunn.
So go on and post your own photo. You know you have at least one lipstick in your bathroom. Furthermore, if you did the Ice Bucket Challenge, there’s no excuse not to do this. It’s a lot drier, but still supports a brilliant cause.
