Lorde and MAC Cosmetics are collaborating on a limited edition new collection that will surely set the coldest hearts ablaze with 90s nostalgia.
“MAC X LORDE COMING JUNE 5TH,” Lorde announced last night via Twitter. The June 5th date surprised us, because Lorde’s aesthetic is not particularly summery. But if anyone can make people wear grape-colored lipstick in August, it’s probably Lorde.
Lorde and MAC seem like the most natural collaborators we can imagine. (Much more so than MAC and Kelly Osbourne, whose upcoming collection seems to feature a weird orangey-peach lipstick and a glut of Photoshop.) MAC is responsible for the dramatic makeup for Lorde’s current tour, and The Cut reports that Lorde regularly works with MAC senior artist Amber Dreadon to pick out those deep lip colors that have become her signature look.
“I have loved MAC Cosmetics since I was a little kid,” Lorde said. “I remember saving up to buy my very first MAC lipstick [Snob] at 14, and it was used by about 20 of my friends! MAC has a very clear aesthetic, that has always felt fashion forward to me. So I was really excited to work with them on these products, which I use pretty much every day and night. I hope you will too.”
The collection does not drop until June, but we’re taking bets as to what it will include. Some dark lipsticks are practically a given, and we’re crossing our fingers for some manicure supplies to duplicate Lorde’s ink-dipped Grammys look. Whatever it winds up including, though, we already know we’re going to buy the shit out of it.
