There are tons of advances in the beauty world happening all the time, but our hairbrushes don’t really change that much. Sure, the shapes and types of bristles may be tweaked here and there, but when we go to the store to pick out a hairbrush, we know what we’re going to get. That’s why Kérastase‘s announcement about the first-ever “smart” hairbrush, the Kérastase Hair Coach, is particularly exciting.
Kérastase and electronics company Withings have teamed up to produce the high tech brush, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this brush is going to change what we think of hair brushing. It may not look that different compared to your other wide brushes—it still has bristles and a handle—but what it also has is a monitor that will measure the quality of your hair.
The monitor will connect to a mobile app which will allow you to monitor your day-to-day brushing. You’ll be able to look at things like your daily brushing habits and how the weather impacted your hair. The brush will contain sensors and a microphone that will monitor if you’re brushing too aggressively or take note of whether you’re brushing your when it is hair wet or dry.
Of course the “smart” technology doesn’t come without a price. No official figure has been released, but it’s reported that the brush will be under $200. Yes, that’s more than your regular brush, but it’s not that much more compacted to some fancy salon ones. It’s also on par with your other electrical hair tools.
If you’re looking to add some high tech fun to your hair brushing regimen, the Kérastase Hair Coach will launch in mid-2017.
