There was no question that Lupita Nyong’o‘s tenure as the face of Lancome would be brilliant. Her first Vogue cover was exquisite. She has the poise and gravitas of an Oscar-winning actress and the looks of a model, so excellence was a given. But now the first campaign photo has been released, and it’s even better than I expected.
Lupita Nyong’o debuted the picture herself on Instagram.
“The secret I never intended to keep: @lancomeUSA #TeintIdoleUltra24H,” she wrote alongside it.
The quadrilingual Oscar-winner with a graduate degree from Yale is stunning in a simple black dress and thick gold bracelet. As gorgeous as Nyong’o looks on the red carpet in her bright eye shadows and fun eyeliners, this subtle, smoky eye and berry-colored lip gloss are also excellent. It’s a subtle look, and and it’s gorgeous.
As her first ad is for Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra 24H foundation, the emphasis is on her smooth, perfectly even skin. (I do not believe Nyong’o has ever had a pimple in her life.) It’s a very good foundation ad, too. Nyong’o has a radiant glow, and she doesn’t even look excessively Photoshopped. I always hate foundation ads that Photoshop the models into plastic dolls. It’s like, “Come on, guys. I know the foundation didn’t do that. This ad does not help me want to buy your product because I cannot see the product under all the Photoshop layers.” But this ad is doing just what it intended and making me think, “I would buy a new foundation if it could give me a velvety glow like Lupita Nyong’o’s.”
