It’s a new week, which means MAC Cosmetics has something new and fabulous in the works. The makeup brand recently revealed it is collaborating with the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund womenswear finalists on capsule makeup collections, and prior to that, MAC partnered with celebs including Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande, and Dita Von Teese. The latest collaboration takes the brand back to the world of fashion design. MAC is teaming up with designer Chris Chang from Poesia.
Fashion designer Chris Chang is based in Shanghai. She draws inspiration from art, color, pattern, and different costumes from around the world. She started a childrenswear line first for mothers who wanted to dress their kids in fun clothes that were more interesting than the basics offered. Then, she expanded to womenswear in 2009 with Poesia by Chris Chang. The pieces are bold, fun, and like mini works of art.
Chris’s love of color and pattern is evident in her MAC collection—you will want to buy everything in the line just for the gorgeous packaging alone. This is the sort of makeup that you will want to display on your vanity next to your favorite perfume bottles. The line is inspired by the ancient Chinese Art form Kunqu.
It would be pretty easy to talk about the gorgeous packaging all day, but let’s get to the actual products. The MAC x Chris Chang makeup collection will have 14 pieces, including eyeshadow, lipstick, blush, and powder. If you’re a fan of crazy-colored lipsticks and bold makeup looks, this is definitely the collaboration for you. Yes, that is a yellow lipstick in the photo. You can also see a teal, red, bright pink, and a deep purple. There are also coordinating shadows and blushes so you don’t have to worry about finding the perfect match for your lippy on your own.
The collection might seem intimidating if you’re more of a Naked palette kind of girl, but there’s a good selection of easy-to-pull off shades, too. Plus, you could easily use the bold colors in the line as accents. You could add a pop of teal shadow to your regular gray smokey eye, or you can try mixing the orange with your brown shadow. The dark purple lipstick would also be great in an ombre lip. However, if you feel comfortable with yellow eyeshadow and teal lipstick, unleash the rainbow. Go bold or go home.
The MAC x Chris Chang makeup collaboration will launch later this year. Until then, you can pass the time figuring out how you can incorporate that stunning yellow lipstick into your look. You know you want to try it.
