You know that edgy look you’ve been trying to achieve with a new hair cut and dark everything? Perhaps you’ve overlooked one keep aspect: blue lipstick. Yep, that’s right, lipstick that is blue. Considering my middle school flashbacks always include blue eyeshadow, I vowed to my future self that all forms of blue makeup would remain a distant memory, much like the printed photographs they belong to. I never imagined I’d advise wearing a shade of lipstick that extends beyond pinks, reds or a subtle purple, and yet, I’m borderline obsessed with this look.

The newest lipstick shade of New York Fashion Week appears to be blue. And it’s stunning (more Avril Lavigne and less alien-esque), just as it was when our writer Frances Locke tried it not too long ago.

My expectations whenever I envision blue lipstick:

The scene from Friends where Chandler discovers Joey’s “Ichiban” commercial, blue lipstick for men. And yet, the reality is so much more rewarding, because Ann Yee knows how to do blue lipstick properly:

Am I right?

Ann Yee’s Fall 2014 show featured models wearing a mixture of MAC pigments to create this blue matte, which highly complemented the neutral tones of her “modern nomad” collection. First of all, that shade of blue is perfection. It’s not glittery, neon, nor does it make the models look deathly, instead its got a hint of edge and sass. Secondly, I am incredibly jealous of just how cool these models look.

Move aside Radiant Orchid, here’s hoping this blue becomes a trend in 2014. Who’s with me?
