Excited for The CW’s new show Reign? It’s about Mary, Queen of Scots, and we are super excited to see it. So, in celebration of this show, I have put together my usual “Makeup Inspired By” tutorial with a sixteenth century twist.
In Reign, actress Adelaide Kane plays Mary, and does so very beautifully. Her makeup is subtle but still striking, using a mixture of cool and warm tones to create an elegant, almost ethereal look.
Wanna get a similar look for yourself? Here’s how!
Step 0: Spritz on a face spray to keep your skin bright, like Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin D Moisture Mist.
Step 1: Start by evening out your skintone using a liquid concealer like Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer underneath eyes and on any blemishes. Skip the primer and foundation; you want this to be dewy and fresh. Swirl a bit of loose powder overtop using a large fluffy brush. I picked Shiseido Translucent Loose Powder.
Step 3: Apply a little bit of berry-colored gel blush to the applies of your cheeks and blend upward, like glominerals gloTint For Cheeks & Lips.
Step 3: Using a fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply a pale berry shade all over your lids and up to the brow. For this shade, I picked the pink color from L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Eyeshadow in Blue Haute Couture.
Then, I took CoverGirl‘s Flamed Out Shadow Pencil and applied it all over the lid and on the lower lashline.
I blended this into the lid to decrease the brightness.
Step 4: Skip the eyeliner — this look requires a light hand with the makeup. Curl eyelashes, then apply two coats of a lengthening mascara on the top lashes and one on the bottom.
Step 5: Fill in brows using a matte brown shadow, Clinique Brow Shaper in Soft Taupe. I kept mine their natural shape, but filled in sparser spots and defined the arch a bit. Then, I applied a little Ramy Miracle Brow to hold them in place.
Step 6: Apply a sheer berry lipstick onto exfoliated lips. If you have dry, cracked skin on your pout, it’s great to use a moisturizing scrub like Lush Mint Juleps Lip Scrub before applying any lip product with color that will wind up seeping into the wrinkles. For the lip shade, I used Calvin Klein Lipstick in Twisted. Voila! A fresh, cute look.
