Even if Josh Brolin says so. He recently told Playboy: “What Megan Fox has done is confuse everybody thoroughly. To me, she’s doing something more interesting than what a lot of other young people in movies are doing. Katharine Hepburn, one of the most appreciated actresses today, was hated back in her heyday. She was box office poison…They didn’t understand her. Yet now we all look back and go, ‘OK, she was incredible. I would love to be the person who puts Megan in a film in which she can actually do something interesting.
You know, I don’t think Megan Fox is a bad actress. I think she’s crazy as a loon, but I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen her in. But what I’ve seen her in is Transformers, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People and Jennifer’s Body. Megan Fox hasn’t had a really critically acclaimed hit yet – or been in any movie where she’s had to play something other than a “really, really hot girl.”
Maybe that movie is coming! But it’s not like Katharine Hepburn started out as box office poison. She started a career with Bill of Divorcement which was a hit, then played Jo in Little Women (another hit) and then got an Oscar for her performance in Morning Glory. And then she made a bunch of bad movies – movies kind of like Jennifer’s Body and How To Lose Friends And Alienate People – at which point she became known as box office poison. People didn’t dislike her because they “didn’t understand her” they disliked her because she kept making shitty movies for a while there.
Has Megan Fox yet made a movie that’s made people say “wow, what a great actress?’ Because if she has, I haven’t seen it.
