If you’ve been rocking the same side braid since you were eleven-years-old, it is time to switch it up. There are so many cool variations on the basic braid, and a lot of them don’t involve mastering the confusing fishtail braid. Mindy Kaling attended the Costume Designers Guild Awards and styled her hair in a massive braid that was way more interesting than your basic braid.

Mindy wore her hair in a side part, with the ends pulled back into a large bun that went into a gorgeous braid. Her hair looked so thick and shiny. Even Elsa would be jealous of Mindy’s gorgeous braid, it doesn’t matter whether there are extensions in it or not. The braid allowed you to get a good look at Mindy’s new-ish blonde ombre dye job, and those pretty chandelier earrings. The look reminds me of I Dream Of Jeannie crossed with Meg from Disney’s Hercules, who had the thickest ponytail I have ever seen. Disney Meg

Mindy’s updo also worked really well with her bright green, embroidered Salavador Perez gown. It didn’t cover up any of the detail work and it had a similar feel as the dress and accessories. Mindy’s dark lipstick and flirty lashes completed the stunning look nicely.

Even if you don’t have hair quite as long or thick as Mindy’s, you should definitely give this braided updo a try. It’s fairly simple to create, and it doesn’t look like you stuck a challah bread on your head.
