Buzzcuts are one of the hottest hair trends of the season. If you’ve been debating about whether to crop your long locks, the rainbow hair carving trend might just be the thing that will convince you to go for a shave because it takes an edgy buzzcut to a whole another level.

The trend takes full advantage of short locks by “dividing” them into sections using different dyes. Pasadena, California-based hairstylist Janine Ker is the genius behind the trend and her Instagram is filled with amazing inspiration photos. Janine has created everything from triangles to spots to swirls to flowers on clients’ heads.

The rainbow carving look usually extends from the forehead all the way to the back of the head in a continuous, 360 degree design. To achieve the fun rainbow looks, Janine actually sketches them out before she starts applying the dye on clients’ heads so she can get the exact look she wants.

If you’re not quite ready to crop your locks for the rainbow hair carving trend, you can still achieve a similar look with hair stenciling. However, once you try that you might just find yourself reaching for the razor and the rainbow dye again.
