The 2015 MTV Movie Awards saw a whole lot of great looks on its red carpet, as well as plenty of whack ones, but one of my favorite hairstyles came from Reese Witherspoon. Showing off her more casual side for the spring, Reese opted for a low-maintenance look with visible roots and a messy texture for her gold locks while presenting the award for Best Kiss with Sofia Vergara.
Just as Jared Leto showed us all a few weeks ago with his own dark roots in a Suicide Squad sneak peek, it actually isn’t a big deal to have some darkness around your hair part. If you can’t make it to the salon before your next big event, that’s totally fine — just style your hair with some texturizer and a wide-barrel curling iron to ensure it looks like your carefree look is intentional.
Here she is with Sofia and the night’s biggest winner, Shailene Woodley:
Of course, there’s still the matter of needing to double process your hair every six weeks if you’re a very, very blonde lady like myself. Otherwise, you risk getting a weird gold band due to the heat from your scalp that helps develop the bleach only going out about three-quarters of an inch. So, while Reese’s casual look is fantastic, it’s limited towards darker blondes like her rather than ultra light-haired ladies.
