2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival - Weekend 2 - Day 2

I guess it shouldn’t be that surprising that someone cut from the same cloth as Beyoncé is able to pull off daring style choices. Those genes are filled to the brim with talent, charisma, and the kind of bone structure that can make just about any haircut work– even when it technically shouldn’t. Solange Knowles made the bold decision to chop off her full, curly hair and debut a little bob at the Met Gala, and it looks approximately 150% hotter on her than it would on someone else.

Earlier this week, Solange performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival with overflowing curls and mega volume. Last night, she stepped onto the red carpet–alongside Phillip Lim, who designed her stunning peach dress– looking like the sexiest pageboy I’ve ever seen. The cut is short and choppy and rounded (to the point of looking a bit like someone’s dad put a bowl on her head in the kitchen and cut around the perimeter) and the bangs are super uneven. And it’s gorgeous. Somehow. Miraculously.

Of course, it’s possible that I’m giving this haircut more credit than it deserves just because of the shock factor, like when Jennifer Lawrence cut hers short and it wasn’t exactly a great look, but we all got super pumped anyway. I always get irrationally excited when celebrities make huge changes to their hair (I’m still on the verge of crying whenever I think about Shailene Woodley‘s pixie cut for The Fault in Our Stars), so maybe there wasn’t a short haircut in this universe that I wouldn’t have loved to see Solange get. Either way, though, you can’t deny that she’s out-of-this-world beautiful, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she styles her new ‘do in the future.
