We all know how I feel about nail art, right? Well, if you don’t, the answer is that I love it. While I tend to dress in boring, monochromatic clothes without much flash, you can’t stop me from bedazzling my nails. Given that Spring is apparently right around the corner (although, the utter bleakness and despair outside my window leads me to believe otherwise), I am getting myself and my nail beds psyched for something other than my winter variations on dark maroon, dark forest green, dark navy, and black. I took to Pinterest and rounded up my ten favorite trends for this Spring.
1. Pastel, graphic nails
“Pastels for spring? How inventive!” you may sneer at me, but you should just shut up for a second. Jazzing things up with some color blocking keeps things fresh and not like something your grandmother would wear to Easter brunch.
2. Fine Striped Nails
Striped nails are nothing new, but I was surprised to see these super fine lines cropping up on Pinterest. I love them, and can’t wait to find a steady-handed friend to put them on me.
3. Pantone’s color of the year
When Pantone announced its color pick for 2014, I was initially skeptical, but wanted to see Radiant Orchid on someone’s hand. I like that it’s a pastel color with some punch, and I prefer it solid as opposed to a pattern.
It would seem that the neon trend isn’t set to die down any time soon, and I’m shockingly really on board with the highlighter yellow in this picture.
5. Easter Nails
These watercolor-esque, painted Easter egg nails seemed way too fussy at first, especially since my style trends toward “lazy girl who could hopefully look at home astride a motorcycle.” But then I imagined these soft little things peeping out of my fingerless motorcycle gloves (we are now in a Janet Jackson music video, so sue me), and I loved the contrast.
6. Electric Blue
I can’t escape bright blue nails this Spring, and I dont’ really want to. Royal blue, electric blue, and even periwinkle are all over the place.
7. Half Moon Manicure
Half moon nails seem to have been around for the past few years, and I like seeing the new iterations each season. I think of them as a sort of transitional thing–I can brighten up my mostly dark winter manicures with a bit of pastel and ease into things.
8. Confetti Nails
Look, it’s been a long freaking winter. Go wild.
9. Metallic Nails
And wilder! I’m on a quest to find the perfect chrome nail polish–I’ll report back when I do.
10. White Nails
My first memory of the white nail trend was in high school, when they always looked chalky and streaky. Now, I think of white nails as oddly sophisticated and a refreshing after the dark winter hues.
