The GIver Inspires Line Of Nail Polish None Of Us Could Have Seen ComingWe absolutely love trying new nail polishes around these parts, and we love reading books even more, but today, a combination of the two is confusing me a bit. Nail polish brand China Glaze has created a small line of limited edition varnishes inspired by The Giver, the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the classic YA novel starring the likes of Odeya Rush, Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Swift, and Brenton Thwaites. This seems a little odd given the content of The Giver.

Check out a few of the shades, including “Five Rules,” “Release,” and “Community”:

The GIver Inspires Line Of Nail Polish None Of Us Could Have Seen ComingLong story short for those who never read the book in fifth grade, The Giver is about a dystopian future wherein everything is the same. From the book’s Wikipedia: “…there is no suffering, hunger, war, and, as also, no color, music, or love.” While The Giver eventually introduces color eventually, and it is a rather big plot point, it is still a bit strange when you initially think about it. A line of nail polish inspired by a young adult novel from 1993 that primarily focuses on two male characters? I was initially skeptical. (Not that men can’t wear nail polish, but in these books, they do not.)

However, the more that I think about it, the more that it makes sense. The Giver reveals the significance of differences between things–differences that include color, which makes it a great, albeit unexpected, choice for inspiring a line of cosmetics.

I suppose nail polish inspired by specific books will only complicate the “what your nail polish says about you” personality test. Speaking of which, when am I going to get my own personal Porno-inspired line?
