Highlighter used to be something that we would dust on as a finishing touch. Now, it’s often the focal point of our makeup looks. Just think about some of the highlighter trends such as thermal highlighter, neon highlighter, rainbow highlighter, reverse highlighter and more. When you combine all of the trends with the wide variety of highlighters that are now available (Black! Pink! Purple! Green!), you will realize just how many gorgeous ways there are to rock that shimmering pigment.

Rainbow highlighters can actually produce a very soft look. However, you can also dial up the intensity. Instead of blending in the colors, apply them in a sharp line directly on top of cheekbones. Then leave them be.

Do you apply highlighter everywhere except your lips? It’s time to change that. Try adding a contrasting color on top of your favorite lippy. We love this purple and gold color combination. It’s very regal.

Here’s your proof that rainbow highlighter can be beautiful in an understated way. Apply a light wash of multicolored highlighter to your cheekbones them blend in the harsh lines. Then add a muted pink eyeshadow to your lids to help bring out the different tones in your highlighter.

8. Streaky Purple Highlighter

Bring streaky 80s blush into modern times by replicating the look with an iridescent purple highlighter.  Then make like it is 2017 and complete the look with a matte royal purple lipstick.

9. Highlighted Eyes

Don’t just stop at highlighting the inner corner of your eye and under your browbone. Highlight the entire eye area with an icy blue highlighter. Of course you don’t want to forget your cheekbones.

10. Green Highlighted Inner Corners and Pink Eyeshadow

That Barbie pink cut crease would be fierce on its own, but it’s even better thanks to the dab of green highlighter on the inner corners of the eyes. Same goes for the on point black eyeliner.

Do you think that it’s impossible to overdo it with highlighter? Then this is your look. Combine a silver highlighter with accents of green, pink and purple over your entire body.

12. Aqua Highlighter and Blue Eyeshadow

Here’s one way to make blue eye makeup look modern. Apply a matte deep blue eyeshadow up to your brows. Then contrast it with a shot of iridescent light blue highlighter on your cheekbones.

13. Streaky Black Highlighter and Matching Lips

Give your black highlighter a painterly vibe by swiping on a fat line on each of your cheekbones. Use your finger instead of your brushes and do not blend it in. For more of an edge, apply dark eyeshadow and a black lipstick.
