Apparently the executives at Australia’s Next Top Model didn’t pay too much attention to Crystal Renn at the Chanel Resort show. They recently informed 16 year old Allison Boxer that she’d have to lose weight. A scout from the show remarked, “”Hopefully, we have a range of body shapes, faces and personalities, but tall and slim is what works.”

Now, you can see exactly where they’re coming from. Look at the picture, she’s just about to burst that dress with her massive rolls of fat. Oh, wait. No, she’s not. Because she looks marvelous. And she weighs 120 pounds. Which, last I heard, still fits under the category of “tall and slim.”

Alison remarks, “I was coming from a place where people were telling me to gain weight, to now people saying I should lose weight… I have never tried to lose weight before, but since then I have been going to the gym twice a day and eating in proportion to try to lose the weight.” According to Allison’s BMI, she’s already underweight. Which means there’s almost no weight to lose.

Now, to be fair you might point out that models like Lara Stone and Crystal Renn are anomalies and most models are very underweight. However, those are models who are actually modeling. Karl Lagerfeld only has size zero samples and you’re up for his runway show? Okay, maybe you do need to slim down. But this girl isn’t a professional runway model. She’s a contestant on a TV show which is watched by 12 year old girls. And maybe it would be nice to at least suggest to them that a woman can be beautiful – and still be a model – and not be absolutely bone-thin.
