moment of silence today show

This is really, really surprisingly upsetting, so brace yourself for it.

If you were up at 8:46 this morning, you likely saw that all of the cable news shows and major networks broadcast a minute of silence to remember those who lost their lives on September 11th. In New York the NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority Police and families of victims lead the minute, while in Washington the President and First Lady did. You might have cried, because watching the kids from 9/11 families and the President during these moments is – oh God, I’m crying right now. Okay.

There was only one channel that did not broadcast the moment and that was The Today Show on NBC. Because they were covering something of more national importance?

Because they had an interview with Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Kris Jenner.

While the rest of the morning news programs were mourning the greatest national tragedy of our lifetimes, on The Today Show Kris Jenner was talking about her breast implants.

This is a real thing that happened that I swear I am not making up because I hate orange tans and too-tight bandage dresses. And I’m sure Kris Jenner did not know this was going on as she was talking.

However, it feels surreal and awful. TV Newser calls it “an odd bit of counter-programming.” We say “what kind of world are we living in where this is even a thing that can possibly happen?”

This is the kind of thing that makes an already very sad day that much sadder, because God help us if the thing that unites us as a people is just The Kardashians.
