Ashley Dupre, the high class call girl who brought down Eliot Spitzer‘s political career turned New York Post columnist, just had a baby with her fiance TJ Earle. The baby’s name is Izabel. The baby is adorable. Ashley looks happy, and I am happy too.
I’m not happy because I think Ashley Dupre is necessarily going to be the best mother in the world. I don’t know who that honor is reserved for. Well, maybe she will, it kind of seems like a crap shoot who is going to be a good parent and who isn’t (which is one of the reasons the prospect of having children is terrifying, but that’s another story). Although, Ashley certainly seems happy about her daughter. According to The Daily Mail:
A close friend told MailOnline: ‘Izabel is one of the best things that’s ever happened to Ashley.
‘She is so in love with her. Nothing means more to her than her little family. She feels very lucky.’
That is nice! That is a much nicer quote than anonymous “friends” typically give!
I’m happy because I like the notion that we live in an age where the events in our past don’t stop us from having a future. If Ashley had been found to be a high class call girl, say, 60 years ago, there’s a good chance she never would have gotten to be a wife and mother. If she had been one 100 years ago, that would have been almost inconceivable. But now, well, I guess we feel like everybody makes some wild and crazy choices when they are young, and those shouldn’t prevent you from going on and leading a traditional life (if you want one) later. And that’s not just good news for Ashley, that’s good news for everyone who ever made a wild and crazy choice when they were young. So, all of us.
