Chelsea Handler opened up about an abortion she had as a teenager on the Rosie O’Donnell show last night. Handler explains that she was 16 when she got pregnant, and was “delusional” in thinking that she could have a child at that age. Her parents, she says, told her she should get an abortion, and so she did.

Handler says that she has absolutely no regrets about it, although she emphasizes that everyone should be able to do what’s right for their own body. O’Donnell chimes in with a little bit of truth that rarely gets spoken on national television (in fact, just the word “abortion” as it relates to personal experience rather than political posturing rarely gets used on TV):

“You read all these things now with Roe v. Wade being challenged where there are people coming out saying, you know, ‘I had an abortion and it ruined me, it ruined my life,’ and I’m like, ‘that’s not the stuff I’ve heard from my friends who’ve had abortions.’…Not that it was a casual thing that they never think about again, but it wasn’t a life-defining negative thing.”
