People's Choice Awards Press Room

If you, like me, read the item circulating a few days ago about how Anonymous had hacked into a German movie studio’s database and found out Emma Watson will be playing Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie and found it a bit suspect, it’s probably because you are a rational being. Ms. Watson has since taken to Twitter to laugh off the rumor, making it clear just how hilarious it is to her that anyone would think she’d sully herself with such a project in a million, billion years.

“Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life,” she tweeted over the weekend. She continued: “?…Good. Well that’s sorted then…:)” The smiley face at the end gives it a nice touch, don’t you think? It’s like I can feel her merriment through the computer.

Emma Watson not playing Anastasia Steele makes a lot more sense than Emma Watson playing Anastasia Steele, of course, because Emma Watson is an A-list actress who acts in  respectable movies like The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and My Week With Marilyn, not unintentionally silly movies that beg you to play drinking games with them like this one is almost definitely going to be. She is also an English literature major at Brown, with additional coursework at Oxford University, and does not seem like the kind of person who would be able to say lines like “my inner goddess was doing the merengue with some salsa moves” with a straight face. At least, that’s the impression that I get.
